Who can participate

The program targets children of all skill levels including children with special needs.

Children 3 to 6 Years Old

The gym component for children between the ages of 3 to 6 years includes motor development and creative movement. The motor development component is designed to develop movement concepts such as balance, hand-eye coordination and right-left discrimination. Fundamental motor patterns such as throwing, catching, kicking, and striking are also included. The creative movement works on body awareness, spatial relationships and the development of rhythm and timing.

Children 7 to 12 Year Old

Children between the ages of 7 to 12 years will receive instruction in sport related skills. Activities emphasize inclusion rather than exclusion. Typical sport included in the program are basketball, soccer, tennis, survivor and floor hockey.

Children with Special Needs

The program provides appropriate educational motor program instruction based on individual needs in a inclusive setting. Children will be taught using multiple teacher strategies including applied behavioral analysis and positive behavior support. Children with special needs include: ambulatory physically challenged, closed head injured, learning disable, Down syndrome, and developmentally delayed. Note: Parents, if your child requires one on one instruction or assistance, you need to discuss these needs with the program director prior to the start of the program.

Assessment

This program offers gross motor assessment (TGMD). The testing occurs during session one only. Children enrolled in both sessions will receive individualized Motor Programs.
